RégimA Skin Treatments Founder & CEO - Jacqui Faucitt: Empowering Women, Changing Lives

ABOUT JACQUI FAUCITT

Originally from Manchester, England, I started my career as a nurse, further studying Medical Science, following a dream, my passion for skin health and anti-ageing, carrying me to where I am today. In 1990 arriving in South Africa I became creative in one of the most challenging climates in the world, armed with enthusiasm, energy and a mountain of passion.

My idea for a unique skin treatment range evolved, and in 1996 RégimA was launched. My journey to change lives with RégimA quickly made an indelible mark.

For the first 5 years RégimA focused on products for plastic surgeons, anti-ageing doctors and laser clinics. Confidence in my abilities to make informed decisions, based on clinical research never faltered.

Scarring was a challenge, but my research paid off, our flagship Scar Repair was created followed by Laser Azu Repair ‘The Blue Gel’, products used by leading plastic surgeons in South Africa and internationally, providing a medically accepted option, RégimA.
I am proud to say the Plastic Surgeons have remained faithful to RégimA since the 1990s.

By remaining an exclusive, results driven range, RégimA has grown gradually and strongly, building a reputation for excellence and Power.
Winning numerous prestigious awards echo success.

One must have confidence, believe in yourself and your abilities and for continued success, you must have honesty, integrity, passion, determination, motivation and tenacity. Being innovative, always working on new projects, continuing to create excitement within our company, stimulating and inspiring everyone has been crucial.

After almost 30 years of growth into a global network of doctors and salons, I have spent two thirds of my working life treating the wounds of those who could not afford care. It is often quoted, if you can give to others without wanting anything in return, the world will reward you. I believe in my heart of hearts that this is a major reason for our success, and that has allowed us to push forward even further in our endeavour to live up to our slogan “PRODUCTS THAT CHANGE LIVES”.

Expect many challenges along the way as the road to success is bumpy, scattered with petty jealousies. You know you are successful, making a difference, when people try and copy.
Experience makes me now look at this as a compliment as RégimA are the pioneers.

Important for success, you will require courage and resolve, to always stay the course, do what one sets out to do, irrespective of the scale of ambition or the adversity met on the climb. Remember “There’s no such word as can’t!”. Maintain a love for learning allowing excitement and wonder to lead the way with ideas to form knowledge, inspire wonder and awe in others.
Knowledge is power, it is “brain food”. Be positive without reservation, making an effort to look for opportunities and solutions instead of barriers and problems. Whatever the situation, always focus on what can be done.

To quote the late, great, Winston Churchill “We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.”

RégimA Skin Treatments Founder & CEO - Jacqui Faucitt: Empowering Women, Changing Lives

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

1. Women's Month celebrates strength and resilience. What does Women Empowerment mean to you personally, and how has it shaped your journey in creating RegimA?

In 1990 I left the shores of my birth with a vision of my new life in my new land. Since I was a young nurse and even in the Red Cross as a teenager, I always wanted to help people, make their lives better somehow, you may say it has been a calling. I have always had a passion for helping to heal those who are either injured, or less fortunate.

Being a woman entering, at that time, what was a male dominated industry, in quite a male dominated country and only speaking English it could have been daunting. Notice I said, could have been. However, growing up in Manchester makes one a little bit tough. I am not what one would call 'a shrinking violet, in other words not shy and retiring, always having confidence, thank goodness. So, I would stress to all young women entering this type of business, which can be very pressurized, or any similar, business where one must work under stressful circumstances and for very long hours.
Weekends and holidays can become a thing of the past. Through all of this one must always maintain confidence in yourself, your knowledge and abilities. Obviously, I had to know what I was talking about and thank goodness for my Grammar School education. The doctors, were particularly excited to hear about a treatment for scars, so I definitely had to know what I was talking about. I knew my Scar Repair was going to be the first specially formulated Scar Treatment.

After ensuring I had done my background work, the first thing I needed to do was talk to patients after they had surgery, this was when I chose to release this, my first product -SCAR REPAIR and ANTI-STRETCH COMPLEX, which, at that time, was unique in the country. My first niche first product was successfully created. This meant I was going to be able to help more and more patients and sooner rather than later. At that time, there was nothing to help heal scars, everything was aimed at the cosmetic market. When choosing which products to create, do not look at the costing, rather focus on the action of your product. It must do what you are claiming, which mine did, so when I spoke to plastic surgeons, I could answer all their questions and I offered to help their patients. Make yourself indispensable!
That is what I did and it worked. It is not just about making one sale that gets you remembered. I ensured they would remember my name and that of my product through its results. My journey was definitely on track. You must listen to the doctors and their patients or whoever your future clients are going to be, to find out what they need, which would tick all the boxes. The plastic surgeons I met in those early days and their patients are still clients of mine today, which shows I have built and maintained a strong presence within a very tough industry.

Write your ethos statement- mine is "PRODUCTS THAT CHANGE LIVES" and I am now known by this statement globally.

2. As a woman pioneering in the medical science and skincare industry, what were some of the biggest challenges you faced, and how did you overcome them?

Any new business is a major challenge on so many levels, not only the costs involved, as one must not only have the knowledge about your chosen industry, but you must have a genuine passion that drives you forward. I have always had this great passion and a thirst to read and learn about medical science, which I studied and enjoyed. It is fascinating and a great feeling when you can gel together your knowledge gained by study and experience you gain over time. It is not easy and there are many hurdles that must be overcome, expect them.
It is essential to continue to come up with new ideas for products and importantly, which ingredients should be included in them. If you have not been creative before, you will have to become so. When you name each product, it should immediately indicate it's action. One of my 'medically aligned products which, helped and still does, overcome many problems, Laser Azu-Repair was created not only for the major challenge of repairing the skin following laser resurfacing, but it had to act like a 'miracle'. But be careful not to make outrageous claims. Never claim to be curing cancer for example, as a claim like that would stop your business quickly in its tracks.

3. Women's Day is about inspiring future generations. What advice would you give to young women aspiring to make their mark in a male-dominated industry or to start their own business?

Ensure you choose an undertaking you thoroughly enjoy as you need to stick with it, whilst building your 'empire'. A warning, you will meet many people along your journey who will try and knock your confidence, but you must remain strong, hold your head high and never have your self-belief swayed by anyone. Also, in order to ensure your success, it is crucial to keep your products of the highest calibre, that is your most important goal, I never chose to cut costs to try and make a higher profit, that is false economy and can greatly affect or even destroy your success trajectory.

4. You've dedicated much of your life to treating wounds and changing lives through your products. How has this act of giving, shaped your definition of success as a woman in business?

This was my ultimate goal, which when achieved, gave me the most amazing feeling, whether it is something small that lifts someone's spirits temporarily, or becomes life changing.

This is how you start building your reputation and continue to strengthen it further as you create each product.

5. Many women struggle with self-confidence, especially in leadership roles. What key lessons have you learned about believing in yourself and your vision, even when facing criticism or doubt?

You will get a rush of adrenalin when you come face to face with someone you have taken the time to help and made the effort to change someone's life for the better.

6. RegimA has grown into a global name while staying true to its roots of honesty, integrity, and passion. How do you believe women can use these values to uplift and empower each other in business and beyond?

Women do not always tend to support each other, so, show other women in business, encouragement when you see they have succeeded. If you admire other women for their achievements let them know you are proud to know them for these reasons.

7. This Women's Month, as we celebrate women who make a difference, what legacy do you hope to leave behind for the next generation of female leaders, innovators, and changemakers?

To be known as a giver, not a taker. Irrespective of cost or time spent, always be remembered as a giving person.
